The research team of the Clinic of Social and Family Medicine, of Medical School, University of Crete consisted of Professor of Christos Lionis (Professor of General Practice and Primary Health Care), Kyriakos Maltezis (General Practitioner) and Enkeleint Aggelos Mechili (PhD in Health Policy) reached the island of Mytilene on March 28th. The purpose of their visit was to be held a meeting with island stakeholders (in the context of WP2) in order to inform them about EUR-HUMAN project and to discuss with them, their views, experiences, problems and expectations about refugees crisis (in the context of Participatory and Learning Action –PLA method). A second and very important reason of the visit, was to design the implementation in the context of WP6.
Initially, took place a meeting with the doctor in charge who provide Primary Health Care services at Moria village (willage that the hotspot is hosted). At the meeting were discussed extensively the analysis of the plan for the pilot intervention. Many other issues such as what kind of health personnel should be trained, from which sides of the island, how many personnel and days are required for the pilot intervention and many other technical issues.
Subsequently a meeting with local stakeholders was held in the hall of the Regional Council of North Aegean Region. The meeting was attended by the Deputy Head of the North Aegean Region, the Vice-Mayor of Lesvos, the President of the Medical Association of Lesvos, the President of Primary Health Services (PEDY) of Lesvos, the Director of the Emergency Department of the General Hospital of Lesvos, the Public Health Director, NGOs representatives (Doctors without Borders, International Organization for Migration etc.) and representatives of police, the coast guard, the fire department and the church. The meeting lasted more than two hours where participants were informed in detail about the EUR-HUMAN project and then expressed their views, wishes and problems on this issue.
