The University of Crete is a multi-disciplinary, research-oriented publically funded educational institution that was established in 1973. The University of Crete is the top ranking Medical School in Greece and is oriented towards academic excellence. The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Crete has a very strong academic track record, ranked #48 in 2014 among the world’s best young universities under the age of 50. The Faculty of Medicine has developed an active program of research in the area of primary care practices and disease prevention and our faculty meet regularly to support knowledge and exchange. Within the School of Medicine, the Clinic of Social and Family Medicine (CSFM), which is headed by Professor Lionis was founded to meet the needs of the local population and to promote research in primary health care (PHC). The CSFM offers teaching and research opportunities to undergraduates, postgraduates and continued professional training in areas of PHC. It has a multidisciplinary research team executing multiple European funded research and national level projects (www.fammed.uoc.gr). An innovative component of Clinic is its affiliation with the Practice Based Research Network (PBRN). The PBRN is the first PHC network in Greece to bring together University research activities and daily PHC practice.

Prof. Christos Lionis, MD, PhD, FRCGP(Hon)

Prof. Christos Lionis, MD, PhD, FRCGP(Hon) is Professor of General Practice and Primary Health Care, and Director of the Clinic of Social and Family Medicine within the School of Medicine at the University of Crete, Greece. Prof. Lionis has extensive experience in implementing educational and research initiatives within PHC with over 290 publications cited in PubMed. Prof. Lionis is actively involved in the development of Primary Care and General Practice in Greece and leads a productive research group which is focused on multidisciplinary approaches to health care, and consideration of social and psychological factors affecting health. Prof. Lionis has led multiple large-scale collaborative research programs within Greece and the European Union. Prof. Lionis and his research team at the University of Crete were involved in four FP7 European funded projects; OTC SOCIOMED (as coordinator), TRANSFORM, RESTORE, and EUWISE), in two Third Health Programme for the Union’s action in the field of health 2014-2020 – CHAFEA (Consumers, Health, Agriculture and Food Executive Agency); EUropean Refugees – HUman Movement and Advisory Network (EUR-HUMAN, Project Proposal number 717319) as coordinator and SPIM-EU project – Determinants of Successful Implementation of Selective Prevention of Cardio-metabolic Diseases Across Europe, Project Proposal number 663309, and currently in a  Horizon 2020 – Project title: “Free Respiratory Evaluation and Smoke-exposure reduction by primary Health cAre Integrated gRoups” – (FRESH AIR), Project Proposal number 680997.

Ms. Agapi Angelaki, BSW, MPH

Ms. Agapi Angelaki, BSW, MPH —is a graduate of the Department of Social Work, School of Health and Welfare of the Technical Institute of Crete and holds a MPH in Public Health and Health Services Administration with specialization in Epidemiology, Department of Medicine, University of Crete. Since 2013, she is an instructor in the workshop regarding the topic “Submitting a proposal for HORIZON 202O; focus on content and technical guidance” in the Public Health Congress of the National School of Public Health (ESDY), in EGPRN (2014) and in WONCA Rural (2015). Since March 2011 and up until today, she is a Fellow Scientific Research in Clinical Social Family Medicine.

Mr. Myron Galenianos, BSc (Hons), MSc

Mr. Myron Galenianos, BSc (Hons), MSc —is an Economist and since 2011, is responsible for the Financial Management of all the Research programmes of the Clinic of Social and Family Medicine of the University of Crete. These include European FP7 Research Projects, National Strategic Reference Framework (ESPA) 2007–2013 programmes and private funding programmes. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Business Economics from Plymouth University, UK (2000) and an MSc in Financial Services Management from the University of Surrey, UK (2001). Furthermore, since 2011 he has been an instructor on the subject of “Budget design and planning for research proposals” and also a member of the Economic Chamber of Greece since 2007.

 

Dimitra Sifaki-Pistolla

 

 

Ms. Dimitra Sifaki-Pistolla, GISexpert, MPH, PhD(c)

Ms. Dimitra Sifaki-Pistolla, GISexpert, MPH, PhD(c)

—is a graduate of the Department of Geography, University of the Aegean and holds a MPH in Public Health and Health Services Administration with specialization in Epidemiology, School of Medicine, University of Crete. She is currently a PhD candidate in Epidemiology. She was an instructor in the workshop regarding the topic “Submitting a proposal for HORIZON 202O; focus on content and technical guidance” in the Public Health Congress of the National School of Public Health (ESDY) in 2013 and 2014 and in EGPRN (2014). Since March 2012 and up until today, she is a Fellow Scientific Research in Clinical Social Family Medicine and has been involved in several national and European funded projects as a project manager and/or health researcher (epidemiology, primary health care, quantitative and qualitative methods). Furthermore, she has published a total of 30 scientific articles and 2 book chapters (under publication).

 

Chatzea_Valeria

Ms. Vasiliki-Eirini Chatzea, BHS, MPH

Ms. Vasiliki-Eirini Chatzea, BHS, MPH —is a graduate from the Department of Health and Welfare Management, Technological Educational Institute of Athens. Ms Chatzea also holds a master degree in Public Health and Health Care Management specialized in Epidemiology from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Crete and a Specialty Training Certificate in Public Health and Food Microbiology from the National and Capodestrian University of Athens. She speaks fluently English, Spanish and German. Ms Chatzea has participated in various Youth in Action programs in many European countries and is a member of the Mensa society. Since 2012 she has been working at the Clinic of Social and Family Medicine as research associate in numerous national and European projects in the field of Primary Health Care.

 

Enkeleint-Aggelos-Mechili

 

Mr. Enkeleint-Aggelos Mechili, MSc, PhD

Mr. Enkeleint-Aggelos Mechili, MSc, PhD is a graduate of the Department of Nursing, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and holds a MSc in Public Health and since 2015 a Phd in Health Policy from National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. His research focuses on Public Health, Health Policy, Health Economics and Epidemiology. He has a huge experience in Teaching Epidemiology and Research Methodology at National and Kapodistrian University of Athens at under and post graduate level. Mr Mechili has more than 20 publications in international and Greek journals. In 2013 he worked at BioMed program in Jordan.

Dr Maria Papadakaki

 

Dr. Maria Papadakaki

Dr. Maria Papadakaki is a lecturer at the Department of Social Work at the Technological Educational Institute of Crete.  She obtained a first degree in Social Work, holds an MPH (2006, Faculty of Medicine, University of Crete), and a PhD from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Crete. She has been teaching in two Master Degree Courses (MSc) in “Public Health & Health Care Management” and “General Practice and Primary Health Care” since 2005. She has additional teaching experience in continuing educational programmes targeting health care professionals in Greece, and has served as a member of the council of the Regional Council of Social Workers (SKLE) in Greece for many years. She has also served as a Member of the Ministerial Scientific Committee for the Greek Primary Care Reform organized by the Ministry of Health and Social Solidarity (Ministerial Decree 1δ/71967/31-07-2013).

Maltezis Kyriakos MD , GP , MPH, Msc is a General Practitioner with a Master in Health Care Management and also in Family Medicine and Primary Care . He has been involved with immigrants through acting in NGO’s with humanistic medical aid missions in Greece and Africa.

 

 

Tatsi chrisa

MS.Chrysanthi Tatsi, BS, MPH

Graduate of the Department of Sociology from the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences, holds a MPH in Health Care Management with a focus in Health Care Management from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Crete and gained expertise in Public Health and Health Promotion at the European Training Consortium in Public Health and Health Promotion (ETC- PHHP) in Cagliari. Previously she has worked as a sociologist in the social services department of the Municipality of Athens (providing health and social services to vulnerable population poor/immigrants/drug addicts) and as a researcher in other Academic Institutions and Associations in Athens.She speaks 2 foreign languages fluently: English and Spanish. Since 2012 she has been collaborating with the Clinic of Social and Family Medicine of the University of Crete as a research associate.

Ms. Eirini Theodosaki, Beng, MSc

Ms. Eirini Theodosaki, Beng, MSc —is a graduate of the Department of Engineering, University of Kent and holds a MSc in broadband mobile and communications networks. She was an instructor in Technological Educational Institute for many years. Ms Theodosaki participated in TRANSFORM FP7 program. She has great experience user support, user training  and software development.
