International Organization for Migration, Migration Health Division, Regional Office in Brussels in collaboration with Hellenic Ministry of Health co-organized in Athens, on March 8th 2016 a meeting entitled “Regional Consultation (RC), Health throughout the reception process Inter-sectorial dialogue”. The meeting was co-organized by the Secretariat General for Public Health of the Hellenic Ministry of Health. The Consultation, organized within the framework of the Equi-Health project and co-financed by the European Commission’s DG SANTE, aims at fostering an inter-sectorial dialogue on migration health and developing recommendations into national and EU-level migration health policy and practice.
Recent human tragedies across the Mediterranean Sea, and particularly the Eastern Aegean, have further underscored the need for swift and determined action. Designed as a Consultative Meeting, the RC is organized with the objective to act as a platform for exchange of experiences and discussion of priorities ahead. The RC follows upon IOM’s extensive assessment on the migrant reception process covering public, migrant and occupational health in the Southern EU Borders based on desk reviews, field work and multi-stakeholder consultations to validate findings and recommendations, as well as on subsequent undertakings.
EUR-HUMAN project was presented at the meeting by Professor Christos Lionis (coordinator of EUR-HUMAN project), Dr Enkeleint Aggelos Mechili, Dr Kyriakos Maltezis and Dr Elena Petelos. Professor Lionis presented at the meeting the EUR-HUMAN project, the main aim, its objectives, the seven WPs and the progress of the project until to date.
